The Nei Jing, above is one the first texts on acupuncture, it was written 2-3 thousand years ago. Modern acupuncture combines the ancient and the new.
Acupuncture is remarkably safe. A few of the concerns about acupuncture safety were accidental insertion of a needle into a nerve, blood vessel or into the chest cavity and infection. An experienced acupuncturist will know “forbidden points” These points are associated with nerves, blood vessels and other tissues that should not be needled. A major development in the practice of acupuncture was the introduction of factory sterilized, disposable needles with guide tubes. (see above). This virtually eliminates worries about infection and the guide tube controls the depth of needle insertion as well as the angle of the insertion. The guide tubes also allow the use of extremely fine needles. In fact the needles are so thin they would bend without the support of the guide tube. This not only improves the safety of acupuncture, but also makes the procedure surprisingly painless. Modern innovations combined with practitioner knowledge and experience makes acupuncture an extremely safe and remarkably effective treatment for all sorts of conditions. You owe it to yourself to try it
