Phoenix Neuropathy. What is it?. What Works?. Our Program.

Neuropathy: What works? Or better yet, why most treatments fail!

There are very few FDA approved drugs for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy. The few that are approved, sadly offer very little in terms of neuropathy symptom relief.   This means that large numbers of patients who are seeking relief from their neuropathy symptoms turn to alternative forms of treatment.  The truth of the matter is that there are a number of alternative neuropathy treatments that can offer relief. So why do most neuropathy treatment programs fail? In our experience with treating hundreds of neuropathy patients over the past two decades, we believe that several factors lead to neuropathy treatment failure. The most important reason from our perspective is that the original cause of the neuropathy is never identified. This means that the process that is damaging nerves is not addressed before attempts to treat the symptoms are started. We know that it is much easier to kill and damage a nerve, than it is to repair one.  So any neuropathy treatment that fails to address the cause, before trying to address the symptoms will likely fail. That is why bloodwork, urine and even hair analysis may be required to properly diagnose a patient suffering from neuropathy.  It is virtually impossible to repair nerves unless or until the ongoing nerve damage is minimized or eliminated!  Prescription drugs like Cymbalta®, Neurotin® and Lyrica® are for symptom relief only and are not designed to address the underlying cause of neuropathy.  These drugs are given for the symptoms of all types of neuropathy regardless of the underlying cause of the neuropathy.  In our opinion, this is why they are not as effective as they might be.

“Neuropathy” is actually a generic term that describes any number of different medical conditions. The term neuropathy literally means “sick nerve”, but it does not describe the reason why a nerve is sick. The reason why diabetic patients have neuropathy (and the treatment of diabetic neuropathy) is much different from a patient who has neuropathy from medication use, toxic neuropathy, B-12 deficiency neuropathy and heavy metal neuropathy. Treating the symptoms of neuropathy without first identifying the cause and attempting to minimize on-going nerve damage, is why most neuropathy treatments are only marginally effective. Specific blood work, urine and hair analysis is essential before any comprehensive neuropathy treatment plan can commence.
